General Methods

Research in the BYU Cardiovascular Research Lab is currently focused on developing an understanding of cardiovascular causes of exercise intolerance (assessed by VO2max and Critical Power) and developing strategies (e.g. high intensity interval training, heat therapy) to improve vascular function and exercise tolerance in various populations and conditions.

Human-based methods are used to measure blood flow and artery function during different types of exercise. Indirect calorimetry is often used to measure VO2 (e.g. VO2max) during cycling, running or knee extension exercise.
